After a two-goal comeback by the Tri-City Eagles, Chandler scored 33 seconds into overtime to win the title for the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers.

STRONGVILLE, Ohio — The Philadelphia Jr. Flyers (PA) wasted no time in overtime of the 1A title game of the 2025 Chipotle-USA Hockey Girls Tier II 19U National Championships.

Just 33 seconds into the extra period, Flyers defender Kylie Chandler snuck a shot into a sliver of the net to clinch a 3-2 win against the Tri-City Eagles (MD).

“It’s an unreal feeling, I’m still thinking about my goal and still hyped and shaking about it,” Chandler said. “I couldn’t have gotten here without my team working hard.”

The Flyers pounced early on the Eagles taking a 1-0 lead on a goal from forward Morgan O’Toole, her fourth of the tournament, in the first ten minutes of the contest.

In the same first period, the Flyers kept the heat on Tri-City with another goal, this one came unassisted off the hands of forward Amanda Beatty, her second of the tournament.

The Flyers would maintain the lead for the first and second periods, playing tight-knit defense and keeping the puck on the Eagle side of things.

“There’s no game plans in hockey, that’s what makes it a difficult spot but we managed to score first in all six games,” Flyers head coach Tom Sullivan said.

However, the Eagles stayed locked in and ready and showed a ton of fight in the third period.

Olivia Boggs scored her second goal of the tournament with 10:27 to go in the third, giving Tri-City life.

Then, the Eagles would tie the game in the final 3:20 seconds when forward Alison Rhea shocked Philadelphia on a slapshot assisted by forward Madelyn Parmenter.

Both teams had chances down the stretch. In the final five seconds, the Flyers had an opportunity to win in spectacular fashion, but Eagles goalie Isabella Gorkowski came up with a clutch save.

With the game heading to overtime, the Flyers remained calm in the face of a momentum switch in favor of Tri-City.

“You never want to give up a two-goal lead, but our season has never been easy,” Sullivan said. “We’re well practiced and we pushed through the tough spots.”

The Flyers endured the scare. Once Chandler had her chance to end the game, she didn’t miss.

“Tri-City is very talented, so we knew we needed to make good decisions with the puck,” Sullivan said. “We took advantage of opportunities when they came around.”
