High School Preseason Invitational

Ice Line's High School Preseason Invitational kicks off the high school hockey season — teams across three divisions battle through round-robin play to the Championship, where the winner lifts the Hicks Cup. Games are played at Ice Line Quad Rinks and PNY Sports Arena.

General Rules

  • All games are played under USA Hockey rules.
  • Each game begins with a 5-minute warm-up period.
  • Three 17-minute periods, stop time. Round-robin games tied after regulation end in a tie (no overtime).
  • Teams may dress up to 19 skaters and 3 goalies.
  • The home team runs the scorer's box (Game Sheet and clock). An iPad is available in the front office.

Penalties & Ejections

  • Minor 2 minutes · Major 5 minutes · Misconduct 10 minutes.
  • Any player ejected from a game is suspended for the balance of the tournament.
  • A player ejected in their team's final game is suspended for their first regular-season ICSHL game.

Advancement Format

  • The tournament consists of three divisions (4 teams per division).
  • Each division winner advances to either the Championship or Consolation game.
  • One wild card (highest-ranked non-division winner) advances to the Consolation game.

Championship & Tie-Breakers

Championship & Consolation Games

  • Consolation: ends in a tie if still tied after regulation.
  • Championship: one 5-minute sudden-death overtime, 3-on-3.
  • If still tied, a shootout — three shooters per team.
  • If still tied after three, sudden-death shootout (every player must shoot before anyone repeats).
  • The home team decides whether to shoot first or second.
