Learn to Play Hockey

Master the fundamentals of ice hockey in a supportive, beginner-friendly program.

Ages 5+ · Previous skating experience required · Six 60-minute sessions per series

About Learn to Play

Ice Line's Learn to Play program equips young players with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to excel on the ice. Each six-week series builds fundamentals progressively, in a supportive environment that emphasizes teamwork and sportsmanship.

Beginner-Friendly

Patient coaches and an inclusive environment so kids feel comfortable from session one.

Structured Curriculum

Skating, balance, stickhandling, shooting, passing — built up progressively.

Team Play

Sportsmanship, communication, and small-area games as players progress.

Skate Rentals Included

Don't have skates yet? They're included with the series at no extra cost.

Requirements

Age: 5 and up
Skating: Previous skating experience required
Equipment: Full hockey gear required — NOT provided. Skates excepted (rentals included).

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my child can't skate yet?

We recommend starting with Learn to Skate USA first, then returning to Learn to Play once they're comfortable on the ice.

What equipment do we need?

Full hockey equipment (helmet with cage, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, hockey pants, shin guards, skates, and stick). Skate rentals are included if needed. Visit the Pro Shop for gear.

What's the next step after Learn to Play?

Most players move on to 3x3 Cross Ice to start practicing in game situations.
