Full Head-to-Toe Equipment INCLUDED

Every Rookie receives a complete set of hockey gear — helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, pants, shin guards, skates, and stick. The equipment is yours to keep at the end of the program.

About Flyers Rookies

Created by the NHL and the NHLPA, the Learn to Play program gives more families the chance to experience the joy of youth hockey. Weekly on-ice instruction focuses on the fundamentals — while building values that carry off the ice.

Skating & Stickhandling

The foundation of hockey, taught at the right pace for first-time players.

Passing & Shooting

Basic mechanics introduced through fun, age-appropriate drills.

Teamwork & Respect

Responsibility, respect, and teamwork — built into every session.

Who Can Register

Ages 5-9
Boys and girls in this age range are eligible for the Rookies program.
First-time players only
Each child can register for Flyers Rookies only once. Returning players should move on to Learn to Play.
Basic skating helps
If your child has never been on the ice, we recommend Learn to Skate USA first.

Frequently Asked Questions

What equipment is included?

A complete head-to-toe set: helmet with cage, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, hockey pants, shin guards, skates, and a stick. Your child keeps the gear at the end of the program.

My child did Flyers Rookies before — can they do it again?

No, Flyers Rookies is for first-time players only. Returning players should sign up for Learn to Play.

Does my child need to know how to skate?

Basic skating ability is helpful but not required. If they've never been on the ice, we recommend Learn to Skate USA first.

What happens after Flyers Rookies?

Most players continue on to Learn to Play or 3x3 Cross Ice for game-situation practice.
